macy's thanksgiving day parade 2023

In the enchanting realm of annual festivities, the 97th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2023 took the stage, a majestic spectacle that unfolded against the vibrant backdrop of New York City. Rewinding the clock, the 96th edition graced the streets on November 24, 2022, commencing at the early hour of 8:45 a.m. The rhythmic heartbeat of the parade echoed live on NBC and Peacock from 9 a.m. to noon EST, captivating viewers with a tapestry woven from the threads of perplexity and burstiness.

A notable debut in the balloon category was The Hottest Heart, a fusion of creativity birthed through the collaboration of Adidas and the lyrical prowess of Bad Bunny. A symphony of contrasts unfolded as Striker, the U.S. Soccer Star, morphed into a balloonicle, rallying fans to fervently support the U.S. men’s soccer team in their quest for glory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The parade's pulse quickened beneath the gaze of 28 full-sized floats, five of which emerged as newcomers, injecting a fresh dynamic into the procession. Amidst this eclectic array, Geoffrey, the iconic Toys”R”Us mascot, orchestrated beats on his dedicated float, heralding the return of mini-stores within Macy’s across the nation. Country melodies wafted through the air as Cam graced a Wonder Bread-sponsored falloon, gracefully floating on cloud-like currents.

Ballet Hispanico, in a mesmerizing collaboration with the new Netflix creation, Slumberland, pirouetted across a float, while Ziggy Marley infused reggae vibes into the ever-popular Baby Shark float. A poignant tribute unfolded with the People of First Light float, a collaboration with the Wampanoag people, narrating tales of resilience, tradition, and a vibrant enduring culture.

A nod to parade history materialized in the form of an elaborate Winter Dragon, a majestic creature that slithered down Broadway, drawing inspiration from the classic Doodlebug float of 1968. As tradition dictated, Santa Claus, in his colossal emerald and golden sleigh, graced 34th Street just before noon, preceded by the sensational tones of Mariah Carey, marking the unofficial commencement of the 2022 holiday season.

Diving into the parade lineup, a plethora of elements paraded with distinctive flair. Macy's Starlets shimmered alongside the Turkey Tech Gobbler, while the Groom Unicyclist showcased unparalleled finesse. Flip and Nemo, part of the Supersized Slumber unit, danced alongside the Mermaid rocking on a Lobster. The ever-charming Geoffrey the Giraffe dazzled on his float, accompanied by an inflatable version, adding a whimsical touch to the procession.

Performance groups infused energy into the spectacle, from the Nationwide Opening Cheer Group to the Kilgore College Rangerettes from Texas, who mesmerized the audience with their rendition of "Baby I'm a Star." The Sigma Gamma Rho Centennial Steppers from Indianapolis added a rhythm-infused celebration with "Thanksgiving Just Got Greater."

Pre-parade acts transported the audience into a world of musical enchantment, featuring Lea Michele and the Broadway Cast of Funny Girl belting out "Don't Rain on My Parade." The Lion King roared to life with "Circle of Life," while A Beautiful Noise resonated with "Crunchy Granola Suite" and "Sweet Caroline."

In the midst of this kaleidoscope of performances, the 97th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade emerged as a mesmerizing tapestry, weaving together the intricate threads of perplexity and burstiness. Cher, an icon of the entertainment realm, graced the event, heralding the arrival of Santa Claus and bidding adieu to the parade with a touch of yuletide magic. As Leo the lizard, a Netflix character, towered over the streets at over 40 feet, and familiar faces like SpongeBob returned, measuring an impressive 44 feet, the parade transcended time, seamlessly blending tradition with the allure of novelty.

Will Coss, the executive producer of the parade, aptly encapsulated the experience as "a magical spectacle, full of entertainment, full of joy, full of celebration." In the heart of Manhattan, where skyscrapers touched the sky and holiday cheer embraced the streets, the 97th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade etched its indelible mark on the tapestry of time, a celebration of tradition, creativity, and the unbridled spirit of the holiday season.
